The Downs group was pleased to be able to become the naming rights sponser for the Rangitikei Tough Kid® 2014 event.
The Rangitikei Tough Kid® is an exciting obstacle challenge course held at McIntyre Reserve in Ohingaiti, in the heart of the Rangitikei region. Having grown alongside the hugely successful annual Wanganui Mitre 10 MEGA Tough Kid®, the Rangitikei event was created especially for Rangitikei and Ruapehu primary students, and last year attracted over 500 children in its second year.
The fun and challenging event is designed for children from year three to year eight, and included the popular water slide, inflatable running, tyre climbs and hay bale obstacles. Hosted in partnership with Mangaweka School, the event was kept fresh by a slight change of course for 2014, and included some exciting new editions. The hotly contested parent-teacher race was also a highlight of the day.
Sport Wanganui is delighted to have the support of The Downs Group as the major naming rights sponsor. The Downs Group Managing Director Robert Gunn comments, “We are delighted to be associated with the Rangitikei Tough Kid Challenge. As a local company we like to support our community and are especially pleased to be supporting the youth of our district”. The Downs Group operates a number of large businesses around the region across the engineering, electrical, and environmental fields.
Around 15 schools signed up for the Rangitikei event, and this year the kids tried for a place on the team that will represent Wanganui in the inaugural Mitre 10 MEGA Regional Tough Kid® competition, which will include teams from Hawkes Bay, Manawatu, Taranaki, and of course Wanganui the home of the original Tough Kid®. The Wanganui team will be made up of the top competitors from both the Rangitikei competition and the Wanganui competition
